  51.     This filter uses the current gradient, as shown in the
  52.     Brush/Pattern/Gradient area of the Toolbox, to recolor the active
  53.     layer or selection of the image to which the filter is applied. To
  54.     use it, first choose a gradient from the <a href="ch04s12.html" title="12.┬áGradients dialog">Gradients Dialog</a>.  Then
  55.     select the part of the image you want to alter, and activate the
  56.     filter by choosing
  57.     <span class="guimenu">Filters</span>-><span class="guisubmenu">Colors</span>-><span class="guisubmenu">Map</span>-><span class="guimenuitem">Gradient Map</span>
  58.     from the image menu.   The filter runs automatically, without
  59.     showing any dialog or requiring any further input.   It uses image
  60.     color intensities (0 - 255), mapping the darkest pixels to
  61.     the left end color from the gradient, and the lightest pixels to
  62.     the right end color from the gradient. Intermediate values are set
  63.     to the corresponding intermediate colors.
